From artwork to embroidery file

Edit shapes and stitch settings, review the sequence and export your design. The free version covers the essentials; Studio will add more tools for design and batch work later.

In the Free edition

  • Draw and shape

Draw outlines, filled shapes and satin columns. Edit their nodes, combine shapes with cut-outs and arrange repeated elements in a circle or grid.

  • Stitch types under control

Choose stitch type, density and direction for your design. Adjust underlay and pull compensation, and create satin columns that follow changes in width.

  • Artwork and fabrics

Import SVG artwork or trace a reference image. Experimental fabric presets provide starting values that need a sew-out test on your fabric.

  • Machine and hoop

Set up machine profiles and hoops. Fit the design to the embroidery area and save the machine file to an accessible folder or USB drive.

With Studio

In development, coming later

  • Lettering

Planned lettering tools include supported installed fonts, arc text, text on a path and individual letter editing. Automatically generated letters need checking and may require manual refinement.

  • Special fills

Explore radial, spiral and Florentine fills, colour blends, motif fills and a hand-stitch effect. The Studio feature set will be listed at launch.

  • Digitize pictures

Automatic image conversion and photo stitch are intended to help you start from a picture. Review the resulting shapes and stitches and refine them where needed.

  • Appliqué

Prepare appliqué with placement lines, tack-down stitches and cover stitches. Export cutting templates with seam allowance as SVG or DXF for further processing.

  • Names and batches

Planned tools include name lists, several names per hoop, template fields for personalization, multiple hoopings and batch exports.

  • Photo Studio

Place a rendered stitch preview on your product photo. Create mockups for review and your shop; these are simulations, not photographs of a sew-out.

Why Nuime Designer

Create your own designs, understand their stitch paths and return to editable projects later.

Nuime Designer is being developed as a standalone Mac app with its own stitch engine. It focuses on editable designs, clear tools and local processing.

Local to your Mac

Stitch calculation runs on your computer. Designing and exporting machine files do not require cloud processing of your designs.

Free for personal projects and paid work

Free is planned to stay free, including commercial use. Running stitch, satin, tatami and machine export form its core, without artificial export quotas.

Studio for additional tools

Studio is planned to add advanced lettering, special fills, Photo Studio and batch tools. Pricing, payment model and release date have not been set.

Keep editable projects

Save the editable source as .nuime alongside the machine file. The open project format is still in development; support in other software has not yet been confirmed.

Realistic embroidery preview

Inspect calculated stitches with light and shadow in the preview. Zoom in to review stitch paths and transitions. A sew-out test is needed to see how thread and fabric behave together.

Sew-out simulation

Follow the stitch plan step by step. Review colour changes, jumps and object order before exporting. Technical checks help you review the file; they do not replace a sew-out test.

Save PES, DST, JEF and VP3 files

Export your design as PES, DST, EXP, JEF, VP3, XXX, U01 or TBF. Choose the format and hoop size supported by your machine model. A production sheet and full-size template help you prepare.

.nuime keeps your designs editable

A machine file primarily describes stitch positions and machine commands. Later edits also need the editable source. Nuime Designer stores it with project settings and an optional reference image in .nuime.

  • Free to use · no license fees or royalties
  • Open · public specification and reference code in preparation
  • Simple · standard ZIP and JSON
  • Local · no cloud account needed

Our goal is a freely usable project format. .nuime is intended to be openly documented and available for integration without licence fees. Publication is being prepared. Other developers decide whether to adopt it; an independent implementation has not yet been confirmed.

Free stays free. Studio goes further.

Free is intended to stay free for personal and commercial projects. Studio will add further tools later. Each release will list the features it includes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there free embroidery software for Mac?

Nuime Designer Free is and stays free, including for commercial use. It runs on Apple silicon Macs and covers running stitch, satin and tatami, preview and export for your machine. Coming soon.

Which embroidery machines does Nuime Designer work with?

Nuime Designer exports PES, DST, EXP, JEF, VP3, XXX, U01 and TBF. Compatibility depends on the supported format, hoop size and features of your exact machine model. The Brother Innov-is NV870 SE is our reference machine; broad machine validation has not been completed.

Can I convert an SVG into a PES embroidery file?

Yes. Import the SVG, assign suitable stitch types and review density, direction and underlay. Calculate and inspect the stitch plan, then export the PES file. Renaming an SVG file does not perform this conversion.

Can I open PES files on a Mac?

Nuime Designer can open supported PES, DST, JEF, EXP and VP3 files, display their stitch plans and export to other supported machine formats. Importing a machine file does not restore its original design objects or lettering data.

What is a .nuime file?

.nuime is the Nuime Designer project format. It keeps supported editable sources, settings and optional resources together. It is experimental; public documentation and independent support are still being prepared.

Does it run on Intel Macs?

Nuime Designer runs on Apple silicon Macs, from M1 to the MacBook Neo we develop the app on. Intel Macs and Windows are not supported. The required macOS version is listed with each download.

Why does macOS ask me to confirm the first time?

The beta is not yet notarized by Apple. macOS may block launch and require manual approval. The exact process depends on the system and installation package; a universally smooth first launch has not been verified.

What happens to my designs?

Stitch calculation processes your designs locally. Free is intended to work without an account. Separate online features include the optional update check and future Studio activation and licence checks; these do not require uploading design files.

Is Nuime Designer really free, also for commercial use?

Yes, that is the plan for Free: permanently free, without artificial export quotas and with commercial use allowed. You still need the necessary rights to artwork and fonts. Studio will add paid features later.

Before I stitch a garment?

Review the stitch plan and sew a sample using the same fabric, stabilizer, thread and needle. Fabric presets are experimental. A calibration card helps compare settings; a convincing preview does not validate sew-out quality.
